Forty Six North provides advisory and capital raising services to alternative investment managers, including those in real estate, infrastructure, private equity and credit. As appropriate we endeavor to make investments alongside clients in their operating companies and/or underlying investments. Forty Six North also assists real estate clients in the purchase and sale of real estate assets through our affiliated real estate brokerage company, Forty Six North Real Estate.
Richard “Rick” Arney - Rick serves as the Chair of Forty Six North Advisor's Board.
Rick has a long history of advising, launching, and overseeing investment funds. Rick served as Head of the Hedge Fund Group and Global Head of Alternatives Distribution at BlackRock. In this capacity he led a global team to distribute BlackRock alternative products including hedge funds, hedge fund-of-funds, private equity and real estate. Rick has substantial experience in governance matters and previously served on the Corporate Governance and Responsible Investment Committee of BlackRock. Rick currently serves as the Independent Chairman of the Lending Club Fund Governance Board where he provides fiduciary, compliance, and risk oversight for a variety of investment funds.
Rick has BA in Economics from Stanford (Honors) and an MBA from Harvard. He also was a Fulbright Scholar Advisor's board.
Laurence has had a diverse career in real estate law, principal investing and investment banking. He began his career as a land use attorney in San Francisco before joining the homebuilder Lennar as Director of Acquisitions, focusing primarily on military base reuse and infill development in the San Francisco Bay Area. Laurence then joined Morgan Stanley Real Estate, where he focused on residential and mixed-use investments and public/private partnerships. In 2009, Laurence launched a series of partnerships which acquired over $500MM of residential assets in partnership with Carlyle Group, Och Ziff, Tricon Capital and Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group.
Laurence currently serves as a Principal in Forty Six North Advisors, which provides investment banking and advisory services to private equity firms, real estate development companies and investors; a Principal in Restore Utah, a partnership with Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group; and an Advisor to Crow Family Holdings in Dallas, TX, a $20Bn AUM investment management company. Laurence also serves on the board of IMOD Structures, a modular construction company backed by Goldman Sachs .
Laurence previously served on the board of the Institute for Governmental Studies at UC Berkeley and Family House at UCSF. He received a JD from Georgetown Law School and a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.
